Adams and Gordon Woolf Hosted by HyperCorp, home of the Graphic Arts Information Network Design philosophy: all information in this web site should be accessible to the intended audience regardless of platform, browser, or size of screen. Graphics are kept to a minimum to reduce download times. If you see a frame or an animated GIF, feel free to flame me mercilessly.
The logo is variation on the original logo from Aldus PageMaker and depicts Aldus Manutius, a student of Johann Gutenberg and the inventor of italics. This is to echo the roots of desktop publishing, both in the 1450s and the 1980s. The logo uses Courier from ITC to evoke the feel of metal type and Poetica from Adobe Systems to evoke the era of hand lettering. The base font for the remainder of the page is Trebuchet, a free font from Microsoft designed for on-screen readability. |
Posting GuidelinesThe PAGEMAKR list is devoted to discussion of the efficient and imaginative use of the Adobe PageMaker application. Although it is not moderated, subscribers are expected to adhere to the following guidelines. Being nice to other people is something that is becoming more and more rare. Here is a list of guidelines about the type of conduct that is expected of all PHOTOSHP list subscribers. If you can't abide by these guidelines, don't subscribe to the list because we do enforce these with vigor.
Since the PHOTOSHP List has many subscribers, discussions often wander on and off topic. Off-topic postings cost all of us time and, for some of us, money. Subscribers are politely asked to follow these guidelines when posting. When posting to the list, keep in mind that your message will be read by many people and will be automatically archived. Be sure that what you are writing is something you wouldn't mind seeing on the front page of your local newspaper tomorrow morning with your name (or e-mail address) on it. If you have questions about your rights and privacy issues including your participation in Listservs, visit the Electronic Privacy Information Center: http://www.privacy.org/pi/ As a support resource for Photoshop users around the world, we will discuss a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to:
As a consideration to subscribers with limited time and energy, please, when relevant, place the following as a preface in the SUBJECT line of your message:
> Your message cannot be distributed to the PAGEMAKR list because it Computer platform bashing (or championing) is not appropriate on this list and will not be tolerated. There are other places on the Internet where this is tolerated and even enjoyed. (See More Internet Resources) Advertising of *any* kind is strictly prohibited. The PHOTOSHP List is not the place to sell your services, your scanner, or anything else. It is not the place to promote your web page or to make announcements. The only exceptions are listings of employment opportunities or Photoshop-related web sites that are educational in nature. Flaming and flame-baiting are not appreciated. Remember that the most efficient way to end a flame war is also the most difficult: let the other person have the last word. If you must respond to another subscriber's opinion, then please, do it privately. Unless *specifically* related to the Photoshop application, discussion of hardware of any kind should not be posted. Note that the list managers will use their judgement in deciding when these posts are off-topic and their decision is final. Also, don't bother the entire list with questions about other listservs. There are other places on the Internet where you can locate other lists and where hardware problems are discussed. (See More Internet Resources) Personal communications should not be sent to the entire list. Every time a message is posted, the sender should consider how many of the thousands of subscribers are likely to be interested. Subscription questions, mail tests, and "Am I still subscribed?" messages should not be sent to the list. The listowner is the best person to answer questions about your subscription. The other subscribers shouldn't be bothered with unnecessary e-mail. If you can't find the subscription information on this web site, contact Michelle Leitzsey Eason (meason@gwm.sc.edu) for help. Warnings about the Good Times Virus, or any other "virus," should not be sent to this or any other list. It is a hoax and the damage it causes stems purely from "the warning" being redistributed by well-meaning individuals. If you think you have a valid warning, please investigate it first at these sites: Computer Incident Advisory Capability (http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html) or Computer Virus Myths (http://kumite.com/myths/). Attached files should *never* be sent to the list. No matter how small these files are or how many subscribers would like to receive them, they should be sent only to individuals who request them. Responses should contain sufficient quoted material to indicate the question that the writer is responding to but *no more* than is necessary to convey the essence of the question. Use this as a guide: if the quote is larger than your response, edit the quote. The size of signature files should be kept to a minimum and five lines is generally considered the maximum. More than five lines will likely make some subscribers angry and you may get flamed. The extra bandwidth that 40-line ASCII renderings of the USS Enterprise (or whatever) waste the time and money of subscribers. Automated e-mailer responses (such as "Confirmation of our message") should be disabled. Again, the aim is to decrease bandwidth waste and unnecessary e-mail. Being put on "Review" means that all your posts will be screened by the list manager. You may not always be notified of being put on review; the list manager might see something negative in a post and decide to monitor your posts for a while. If the post that prompted the list manager to put you on review was especially rude, you may have to mind your manners for quite a while when posting. It is entirely up to the list manager as to when you will be taken off review. Be nice and this won't happen to you.
